AnjiPlay: Self-determined Play at the Library

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

For the past two years, Madison Public Library (in collaboration with AnjiPlay World LLC) has been developing a new model of library program for young children, based on the educational approach called AnjiPlay, that prioritizes children's self-determined play with minimally structured play materials.  In this approach, adults are encouraged to "step back and tune in" -- closely observing and often recording children's play, with the most minimal of adult direction or intervention.  In Anji County, China, where this philosophy was developed, children ages 3-6 attend AnjiPlay schools.  Here in Madison, children's librarian Carissa Christner has been working closely with the AnjiPlay professionals to develop a non-school, mobile version of the program.  Learn more about the AnjiPlay philosophy (www.anjiplay.com) and see how it's been translated into a library program.
